MTGS Meeting Thursday 28th June 2018
at Swinley Forest Golf Club

We had a good turnout of 41 members and 17 guests for our second Member/Guest day of the year at Swinley Forest. It was a nice, warm day (happily not as hot as recent days). Our first visit to Swinley for some time proved to be a successful one. Like many nearby courses, the fairways had turned from green to brown in the last week but overall the course was in very good condition. Ratings of golf courses are, of course, subjective but this link https://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-course/swinley-forest shows how highly regarded it is whilst also giving some of its very interesting history.

The novel format for us of an optional afternoon seven-hole Scramble followed by tea was generally a popular one. The service and friendliness of all of the Swinley staff was most impressive as was the quality of the food provided. We plan to return there next year with the odd lesson learned on how to improve the logistics of this novel format.

During lunch, our President, Martin Derrick, welcomed the members & guests and mentioned that our two remaining major events of the year are at Hankley Common (Member/Guest day on August 14th – invitation already sent) and the Members' day at Walton Heath on September 13th. He also gave a really sincere "thank you" to the event’s sponsor – Lease Car Credit courtesy of Oliver Harris: not only had Oliver sponsored the prizes but he generously provided a sleeve of Pro V1s for all participants: Oliver then presented the prizes as follows: -

Whilst there were no prizes for fourth, the three players finishing in that position deserve an honourable mention for only missing a prize on countback. The Division One results were quite remarkable with four players finishing on 36. Ian Hill’s score of 41 was exceptional.

We have now played three of the five events counting towards finding our player of the year (the best three scores count). The top twenty five scores follow (quite a few players in this table have only played in two events and these scores are in red)

In the afternoon seven hole Scramble there were some phenomenal scores – the runners up were 5 under gross whilst the winners were 6 under. The prize winners and their net scores were: -
