MTGS Members Day at Walton Heath: September 12th 2019
We had an enjoyable time at Walton Heath: the course was in great condition and the weather was pretty good although there were a few spots of rain for ten minutes or so. The greens were very true and the heather was beautiful but had to be avoided at all costs. 32 people participated in the final "MTGS major" of the year. The main points covered by the President after an excellent lunch were:
* whilst we have a policy of rotating Clubs for our member/guest days, next year we will return to Woking, Swinley Forest & Hankley Common as they were all so well received and supported this year
* The Committee has just decided to make next year’s meeting at Walton Heath (September 17th) open to guests – announcement greeted with applause
* This year’s Ben Day will be held at Effingham on November 21st. We want a shotgun start and that requires 72 players so please come along ideally with a team. The invitation should be going out in the next few days
* Another key date in our MTGS 2019 diary is the Lunch on December 11th at the RAC Club in Pall Mall (remember that ladies are most welcome). It will not be long before that invitation is sent out. It will be a little less formal than in previous years (dress code – lounge suits) and the ticket price will be significantly lower
* A sincere thank you to our prizes sponsor – Motor Clean and I'm delighted that David Warren will be doing the presentation today
The results of the day’s Stableford & putting competition and the aggregate competitions follow. Particular congratulations go to: -
* Stuart Billings for retaining the Hallen Trophy with the best scratch score
* David McCluskey who was our player of the year (2 shot cut)
* Sean Costa who equalled David’s aggregate score but had a lower score when the points from all five events were totalled
* Martin Broome for the highest Stableford score of the day (39) and winning Division 1 (2 shot cut)
* Robert Maxwell for winning Division 2 (1 shot cut)
* Tony Head for winning the putting competition by no less than 3 shots
