Welcome to the first Member/Guest Major MTGS meeting of 2025.
It is being held at the magnificent St George's Hill Golf Club (Golf Club Road, Weybridge, KT13 0NL - 01932 847758) on Thursday 16th April.
The format of the day will be:-
07:30 Clubhouse opens: Coffee/tea, Danish pastries and bacon or egg rolls available
08.30 First tee time: 18 Hole Stableford, off 95% course or social handicaps. 2 tee start (Red and Blue)
13.30 3 course carvery lunch followed by Prizegiving, new President Drive-In and then AGM.
Division 1 players will be competing for the Car Mart Challenge Bowl and Wagon Trophy
Division 2 players will be competing for the Ace Trophy and J Tait Bowl
Both Divisions also have nearest the pin and longest drive prizes.
Stableford points will contribute to the Player of the Year prizes at the end of the year.
Dress code for lunch is Jacket and Tie

41 members and 31 guests came along to our 1st Member/Guest Day of our Centenary 2026 year at St George’s Hill on Thursday. A cracking turnout. It is easily the largest group we have had at “The Hill” in many years, so thank you all for the amazing support you give to our Society. Without it we simply would not be able to continue playing the fantastic venues we currently enjoy.
It was a slightly chilly and overcast morning as everyone gathered in the lounge, with its trademark pillars and fantastic lofty views over the course. Fantastic to see so many familiar faces cheerfully catching up with one another, and enjoying the excellent bacon rolls, pastries and coffee.
Nick Kingsbury and his fellow “Hill” members led the way in the first group off the 10th. Nick has played a vital role in allowing us to keep playing at the club in a time that they are slashing the number of Societies that are able to play. Thank you Nick from all of us.
After a fleeting shower passed, the clouds soon parted and we were treated to some spring sunshine. The course was in great shape, especially the greens, which showed very little sign of having been treated with many tons of sand. The hickory NTP on the 11th proved a real challenge for many, but, in his last game as 2025/26 President, Joff Suter made it look easy with a shot that would have probably won NTP with a modern club. It shows how clubs have evolved since the Society was first conceived. The club that produced the best results on the 110 yard par three was the hickory 5 iron! With the greens in fantastic condition and the heather, with was not quite in bloom yet but still being very effective at catching wayward balls, only 2 golfers managed to just break handicap. Shot of the day was by Andrew Hill’s guest, Lars Erwig, who had a glorious hole in one on the 3rd hole. Well done Lars.
After a quick drink in the lounge, we were all treated to a 1st class carvery in the upstairs dining room. After eating, it was back down to the lounge where our 2025 President, Joff Suter, gave a short speech. He praised the condition of the SGH course and the attentiveness of the staff. He said how much he had enjoyed all the fixtures last year, especially the President’s Cup match in Bournemouth. He thanked the Committee, the Match Managers and the Sponsors for all the hard work they did behind the scenes.
A crowd then gathered on the terrace to watch our 2026 President, Ian Hill, drive in.
Thank you Joff for all your hard work and steerage in 2025, and welcome Ian to your new role.

A sincere "thank you" is due for the continued sponsorship of our prizes by BCA. It was a shame that Craig Purvey, their Chief Commercial Officer and MTGS member, was not able to play, especially after having won Div 1 in 2024. It was good of Adam Lish of BCA to be able to step into play on Craig’s behalf. Fingers crossed your diary will allow both Craig and, hopefully Adam, to play next year.

Our next Member/Guest “Major” event is at Woking Golf Club on Tuesday 12th May. We still have spaces left, so please could I encourage those of you who are still to apply to please do so before they run out. It’s always a fantastic event and we hope that you’ll enjoy the next centenary challenge, a hickory longest drive!
