Dear All
As an update on our match last Wednesday against the Midlands MTGS. I am delighted to say we had an overwhelming victory 3.5 points to 2.5 points, and retained the fabulous hickory golf club that dates back to the early 1950s. Unlike last year, when the club destination was unknown ,I can confirm I do have possession of it.
We arrived to beautiful weather, which remained all afternoon, so the conditions were perfect. Taddy was in good condition, with many compliments on the course being given from both teams, particularly the greens which were immaculate.
Over the soup and sandwich lunch prior to commencement , the banter started with our northern cousins ,who were all in very good spirits. Our team gave as good as they got and it was taken with much laughter.

Result 3.5 points to the good guys and a resounding victory over our Northern cousins. Well done the team in retaining the Trophy. It’s only the second time we have won in 9 years , so next year we are now on for the hat trick !!. All the games were well contested ,on what was a great day in great conditions. Everyone, including the Northern boys, thoroughly enjoyed it, though Northern congratulations were given through gripped teeth. I think the match was summed up in David and Neils game , 2 up with 2 to go,1 up with 1 to go and then David sunk a 20 foot putt (so he says it was that size) on the 18th green to half the hole and win their match, which proved vital in the overall result. I know David will be gracious and not take the credit for the win! Overall it was a great overall team performance to hold off a strong ,younger and lower handicapped Northern team.
At the end of the game the new facilities at Taddy were very welcome. We sat down for dinner with the banter flowing between the two teams. The meal was of the usual high standard and well needed by the time we sat down. The Northern team captain was very gracious in his congratulations of our win but it did not stop the banter going both ways in our acceptance of the trophy. The company was good, with a great team spirit with plenty of noise and laughter. The MC&MTGS guys have arranged the dates for a rematch next year, so no doubt we will see plenty of familiar faces and the rivalry reignited .
Thanks to the team. You played well and in great spirit. I know you enjoyed the course. I hope you all got home safely.( Clive you just need to set off a bit earlier) I look forward to catching up with you at the next events.
Cheers
Mike
