Thank you to all who played at Swinley Forest today. We had a good turnout of 38 Members and 21 guests.
As always, we were made to feel very welcome in the clubhouse. The weather was warm but overcast and quite blowy, so nearly everyone sat out in the bar area, with it’s photogenic view of the course, for their bacon bap, coffee and catch up with old friends.
Breakfast enjoyed, a steady stream of cars voyaged towards the 10th tee car park ready for the 08:00, twin tee, starting off time.
The course was in fantastic condition, especially considering the lack of rain that we have had recently. Balls rolled a long way on the hard fairways, landing many in the thick heather. Hidden undulations and run offs carried many putts off the greens in unforeseen directions. Only 4 golfers scored better than handicap. Many golf bags went home considerably lighter as a result of balls left behind on the course.
Lunch was the usual excellent Swinley carvery. At the end of lunch, our President, Joff Suter, gave a short speech welcoming everyone to Swinley Forest, complimenting the course, the service and the food. He thanked the Membership for their ongoing support of the Society in making sure the recent events were over subscribed for players. A rare problem for many golf societies in this modern age. He congratulated the winners and introduced our Sponsor, Oliver Harris of Lease Car Credit, to present the prizes. We are very grateful for his ongoing and generous sponsorship of this event.
