News and information from this event

Thank you to the 71 players, including 28 guests (4 from the FMI) who came along to our 2nd Member/Guest Day of 2025 at Woking Golf Club on Tuesday.  We were blessed with one of the best weather days of the year so far, with sunshine and temperatures reaching 24 degrees.

Woking is a tough test of golf and historically not many visiting players beat handicap.  We are very lucky to be one of only half a dozen societies allowed a shotgun start annually.  Whilst still in great condition, the course had obviously had a lot of work since our last visit and the lack of rain had not quite allowed some of the fairways to recover in places from the drainage works.  The greens were incredibly fast, with many putts resulting in balls sailing past the hole.   There was only one Member who managed to play to handicap.   Well played Mike Edwards.

Following a welcome shower, everyone enjoyed a drink on the veranda.

In order to keep costs down there was no starter for the meal this year.  It was a choice of a beef carvery or an unexpected chicken curry for main course, followed by a choice of desserts.  Whilst nearly everyone kept to the carvery option, the chicken curry was very tasty.  Following the meal, our President, Joff Suter, gave a short speech thanking the club for looking after us so well,  AutoProtect for kindly sponsoring the event, the FMI for co-hosting with us, congratulated Martin Kennedy on his eagle on the stroke index 1 hole 6, and invited any invited guests, with Motor Trade background, to apply for Membership.    He then gave out to prizes to the MTGS Members and Guests.  This was followed by a short speech by Peter Cottle, President of the FMI, thanking the Club and the MTGS and giving out the prizes to the Fellowship.
