MTGS v The Northwest MTGS at Blackwell GC

The group gathered at the renowned Blackwell golf club for the annual match against the North West MTGS under dark skies.

May I take this opportunity to thank Derek for handing me the reins for my first captaincy!

After the surprise team selection by the stand-in captain, the golfers met at the first tee, resembling Scott of the Antarctic in their wet weather gear.

In order of play Match 1, the new dream team of Nick Haigh and Paul Healey cruised to a 4 and 3 victory against Eddie and Paul who hadn't lost for nine years at this fixture.

Match 2 involved Neil Smith and El Presidente who had an unfortunate loss

Our hopes were restored when a second dream team of Steve Drewitt and Roger Prowting could have returned to the Club House after 11 holes but decided to accompany their wounded opponents into the bar to let them buy the victors a beer!

Match 4 involved Mike Evans and Martin Derrick playing against 3 and 6 handicappers who shot four under gross better ball. Unsurprisingly they lost the match

At this point we were all waiting on the 18th for the 5th pairing of Pawan Kenth and David Manchester who came home with a win to clinch victory for the MTGS - our first in seven years!

The teams then gathered for a convivial meal and enjoyed speeches, conversation and the trophy returning to the south
