On a beautiful sunny October day our team assembled at Betchworth Park Golf Club to take on BMW in our 22nd match for the unique and prestigious F1 trophy. Being the current holders we teed off first but lady luck was not with us today with a 4 & 2 loss overall. Current tally is now BMW 11, MTGS 6, halved 5. ( Note to Captain " must do better next year " ! )
Our pairings of Gordon Watt/John Wake and Oliver Harris/Douglas Drummond had valiant halves, with Mark Binyon/Cliff Ainger winning their match 3&2. The other pairings suffered defeats at the hands of very strong BMW pairings.
BMW were thanked for their providing entry tickets for all the team to the BMW PGA event at Wentworth last month, today they also gave all our team a sleeve of BMW golf balls and a golf cap.
Their Captain Gary Lewington thanked the club for its excellent course presentation and the in house team for the food and service.
It is hoped that next year we will be able to play with an increased team size of 16 players, and although the 7th October has been pencilled in for the match next year, BMW will look at the possibility of running the event at Wentworth.
The tired but happy golfers wended their way home about 4.30p.m. hopefully avoiding the traffic.
