On a sunny early June morning, eight MTGS golfers arrived at Dunstable Downs Golf Club in Bedfordshire for our match with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport ( CILT) Golfing Society.
Dunstable Downs is an impressive course high up in the Chilterns with wonderful views of many counties to the West. This was the second match between the Societies. After a tied initial match at Surbiton last year the CILT had chosen Dunstable Downs this year. When the teams were announced it was clear that the MTGS were going to have a tough day as 4 of the CILT team were in fact members of the home club.
Unfortunately this home advantage proved decisive and on a beautifully prepared golf course the MTGS lost by 4 matches to nil. Ian Dowdeswell's team came the closest - only losing by three points. Well played Ian.
After the games were finished, a splendid 2 course meal was served and Graeme, our President, congratulated CILT on their win, Dunstable Downs on the quality of their course and handed over the trophy.
All agreed that it had been a splendid day and we look forward to renewing rivalry with the CILT golf society next year.
