News and information from this event

The match was not without its trials and tribulations this year with everyone turning up on time at 8.30 for the traditional coffee and bacon rolls, but only to find out that due to the overnight rain that there were no buggies ! Three of our stalwarts namely Oliver Harris, John Woollatt and Ray Fisher who had booked and needed buggies were unable to play, so suddenly our team of twelve became nine ! Fortunately with a bit of skillful negotiation we managed to have our three singleton players - myself, Trevor Teer and Ian Dowdswell play the opposing BMW pair as two individual match play matches off of full course handicap for half a point for each match. Those three individuals came in with a 1 3/4 to 1 1/4 win for the MTGS. Of the other pairing Martin Howes and William Hunt came in with a 4&2 win and Ray Summerville and Roger Prowting with a 4&3 win.

The overall result being 3 3/4 to 2 1/4 in our favor and I am now proudly displaying the F1 trophy on my desk at home.

The BMW team had flown two players in from Ireland and a couple of others had travelled long distances and were fielding three of their players with single figure HC's.

As always the match was played in a good spirit and the post match meal was eaten in fine style with the usual excellent Betchworth carvery.

Our thanks go to Betchworth for providing and excellent course and excellent service, everyone commented how good the greens were, although difficult if you were putting downhill from above the pin !

Thanks also to BMW for hosting the half way house and bar and wine.

My thanks also go to my last minute standins, Martin Howes, William Hunt, Trevor Teer and Ray Summerville with them all playing some outstanding golf.

The match was agreed to be run again next year, date to be advised.

Regards,   John.
