Committee Cup at New Zealand GC
Tue 15th March 2022

Status:

Welcome to the seventh MTGS Committee Cup meeting. It is a team match to be played at the wonderful New Zealand Golf Club (470 Woodham Lane, Addlestone, KT15 3QD: 01932 345049: www.nzgc.org/) on Tuesday March 15th. The format of the day will be: -

Coffee and bacon rolls served from 7.45
Four Ball Better Ball matches (first tee time 8.45)
Lunch served around 14.00

The two teams will represent the Committee (past and present) and the Members. The winning team will be presented with the magnificent Leon Friedman Memorial Trophy (aka the Committee Cup). The Committee are the current holders of the Cup. Overall the Committee also lead with 4 yearly wins against a tally of 3 for the Members.

If you sign up for the match then you will be guaranteed a game as we will juggle the numbers so that there are an equal number of players on each side. We are indebted to Sean Friedman for his generous sponsorship of the event. All matches will be played over the full 18 holes: the winning scores in individual matches would only be brought into the reckoning should the overall team match result in a tie.

Committee Cup Report
New Zealand Golf Club
Tuesday March 15th 2022

The eighth annual Committee Cup fixture took place on one of this year’s first dry, sunny and warm dry days.  The New Zealand course was in excellent condition despite some major work taking down trees.  Some of the fairways were crossed with tracks of heavy machinery but it did not spoil the playing experience.

We had a good turnout of 32 members.  11 current, or past, members of the Committee were supplemented with an additional 5 members, to allow two teams of 16.  The Committee team was captained by our President, Nick Haigh, and the Member’s team was Captained by our generous sponsor, Sean Friedman.

The winners were: -

Players Result Points

Nick Haigh, David Locking Committee 4/3
Martin Broome, Mark Binyon Members 1/0
Paul Newman & Rene Glenister Members 4/3
Neil Smith, Ian Hill, Graeme Hunt, Frank Whiffen – Draw
Mark Hawker, Steve Wright, Members, 4/3
Douglas Drummond, Robert Maxwell Members win
Terry Wills, Roger Prowting Committee 3/2
Tim Fenton, Stuart Noakes Members 7/6

The overall result was a 5½ - 2½ win in favour of the Members. They now lead the series 5 – 3.

Lunch was superb and, after a few words from our President Elect, Graeme Hunt, Sean Friedman was presented with the magnificent Leon Friedman Memorial Trophy.

We are extremely grateful to Sean for his continued sponsorship of this event
