A perfect summer day and the outstanding New Zealand Golf Club, provided the setting for a MTGS victory in the annual match against the Automobile Golfing Society for the Vickers Trophy, for only the seventh time in the twenty one year history of the event.
MTGS looked set for a resounding win after taking all four of the morning foursomes. An excellent lunch and generous hospitality from the AGS, who were responsible for refreshments this year changed things in the afternoon matches however!
A flying start with big wins from their first two pairings meant game on and it was a steely second win of the day from Peter Steiner and president elect, Tony Worthy which eventually got the MTGS side home by five point to three.
During lunch, MTGS secretary Philip Payze presented Tim Connolly with a memento to mark his retirement as AGS secretary after twenty-one years, presiding over the annual event each year since its inception. LGS 27th June 2002
