Bandits in Turkey



A small band of members and guests met at Gatwick on a cold Sunday morning and climbed aboard a Airbus bound for Antalya in Turkey. Just over 4 ½ hours later they were having dinner in the presidents room in the Gloria Golf Resort in Belek Turkey.

The next morning found them teeing off on the new course at the Gloria the day was dry if a little cold – big sweaters were needed! The day was won by Butch Ash with 32 points playing off 18.

Day 2 was on the Pasha Golf Course and was won by Peter Featherstone with 40 points playing off 13. The day was a little warmer but very windy.

Wednesday saw the guys on the Gloria Old course, the Sun had come out, as had the shorts - unfortunately the Bandits were following an international golf competition being played in fours with Medal scoring!!! The 18 holes took about 5 ½ hrs! However the slow pace did not deter the president who came in with 32 points off 11.

The best course of the week was the Sultan, a 2yr old course that was a very good test of golf and when you "got it right" was very rewarding to play. Butch scored 39 points off 17 (and was cut 2 shots). The weather was the best so far, sunny and warm 20+C.

Friday saw the team back on the Gloria new course, unfortunately, again following the 50 odd international golfers hacking their way round the course – a 6 hr round followed! Butch again won (by 1 point) with 34 points now playing off 15!

The Nobilis golf course was just across the road from the Gloria Resort and the Guys did battle on this course on Saturday. Stan Chichsand won with 39 points, 2 better than the next man!

Having packed their bags the Bandits were on the tee at the National Golf Course (thought to be the most difficult of the week) at 8.32am after a rather hairy bus journey – the bus was late and to make up time the driver ran the red lights on the way! The Sunday scoring was Medal and was to be subtracted from the total Stableford points from the first 6 rounds. Ray Fisher won by 1 shot, with a net 77 playing off 16.

Butch Ash was the winner for the week winning the Bandits Salver with a score of 116 (198-82) Stan came next with 109 (187-78) Peter 3rd with 108 (196-88) Ray was 4th with 102 (179-77) Stan's guest Mario Corsini was next with 94 (181-87) with Vip Khanna 6th with 89 (175-86). Only 30 points between the players after 7 rounds!

The afternoon was spent either sun bathing on the beach or swimming in the hotel pool! It was felt that all had consumed far too much food and drink and the Bandits flew home vowing to diet for at least a week! All agreed a great time had been had by all! Rjf 02/12/05
