MTGS Match Report
Match v AGS at New Zealand Golf Club
9.30 saw the MTGS teams on the 1st tee for what promised to be a needle match – we lost 7 ½ to ½ last year and we were determined to win back the trophy. We were playing 2 rounds of foursomes. Lunch time saw the MTGS up 4 – 0 and it looked good for a win.
Lunch was super and the AGS did some team reorganising and at 2.30 battle recommenced! Brian Carte was determined to do better in the afternoon and indeed Butch Ash and I in the 1st match lost on the last putt on the last green, so there was a worrying wait till the 2nd match got in – Peter Featherstone and John Day won by 1 on the last green! The 3rd match was also very close with a ½. The last match was won 6 & 5 – a resounding win for the MTGS at 6 ½ 1 ½ . Brian Carte was a bit sad to have to present me with the Trophy.
