Match v SMTGS in Scotland 12th and 13th May 2011

Thursday 12 May

It was an early start at Heathrow and British Airways lived up to the not very good service that we have come to expect.
However we were warmly greeted and received at Leven golf links by Hugh Southerland, Scots Captain and his selected team, after a light lunch pairings were drawn and reviled, we traditionally play four ball better ball both days, four games per day.
The weather was threatening rain and 28 mph gusts were constant, as the matches progressed during Thursday afternoon on Leven links, luck would have it that apart from a few spots of rain and the wind that the golfing gods were with us.
The results at the end of play day one was two matches won each, 2/2 even. That evening a good time was had by all at the welcome dinner in the charming hotel chosen for our brief stay.
After the Friday pairings were announced, it was apparent Hugh Southerland had changed his pairings from the first clash, in what appeared to be some tactical move to secure a better result for the Scots the following morning.

Day One

Friday 13 May

After a hearty breakfast we all made our way to Lundin Links golf club just a few minutes drive from our hotel at Lower Largo, the weather promised much of the same as Thursday, the MTGS match pairings were not changed unlike the Scots, this resulted in very very close fought games that eventually ended in a 3 – 1 victory to the South

Day Two

Overall result, 5 Games To 3 in favour of the MTGS
The Rolls Royce Trophy was presented to our victorious President James Crickmay during lunch; as usual our hosts were most gracious in defeat.
