MTGS Guest meeting held at West Hill Golf Club

4th July 2013

What a wonderful day we had at West Hill Golf Club last week, it was our first event at this course and from all of the feedback I have had I am sure it will not be our last. The weather was perfect for golf and the course was in good condition, although many found the greens difficult to read. We had 64 members and guests setting off on a shotgun start at 9 o'clock after the traditional bacon rolls and coffee, and judging from the scores and number of lost balls I am sure many of us found the heather. Congratulations go to the winners James Crickmay - Div 1, and our very own golf manager in waiting, Terry Wills - Div 2. Full results shown further on.

I even had a lucky break on the Div 2 nearest the pin hole with the shot hitting the mound by the bunker and running across the green to within 6", and yes I did sink the put without a gimmie !!.

After the round the showers were a welcome break from the heat, and the recent upgrading of them was very impressive. The lunch and prize giving followed in their lofty dining room, which also had sliding doors onto the balcony, giving plenty of fresh air. Jackets were dispensed with and we settled into a very good carvery lunch. I think the overall quality of the day was excellent and the club could show some of our existing courses a pointer or two.

Your committee has decided to bring a couple of new course into our schedule in a bid to keep the cost down and give an opportunity to be able to negotiate a better deal for us from a position of strength, we will be dropping one of our existing venues for a one year break and introducing you to some of the other lovely courses that are available to us. This year we dropped Worplesdon to bring in West Hill, and next year will drop Hankley and bring in Betchworth Park. For those playing in the Presidents v MTGS match in August, you will have the chance to try this lovely Surrey Hills course.

Please ensure you have the 5th of December in your diary for our 80th dinner at The Dorchester, which I am sure will live up to its reputation. Please if you are able try and plan now to bring extra guests and make up a table let Peter Featherstone know a.s.a.p. as we will be tight on numbers again this year.
