MTGS v BMW DGS
West Byfleet Golf Club
Wednesday 7th October 2015
After a difficult drive with various traffic incidents en route we all arrived at West Byfleet Golf Club to contest this, our last match of the season, at around 9am. The weather conditions were predicted to be fair and dryish, and that proved to be the case. The course, after 48 hours of torrential rain, was in good condition albeit the greens were a little slow and held the ball as it pitched.
The match was played for the impressive trophy made up from the brake disc from Juan Pablo Montoya’s F1 car that won the Spanish GP.
The overall result was a draw with three wins apiece, which meant that our President’s impeccable record of not losing a match lasted for the whole of his season, well done Roger. Unfortunately it meant that BMW retained the trophy that they won last year and it will remain in their trophy cabinet on display at their Head Office until contested again next year. Our thanks go to BMW for their support of this match and in particular picking up the cost of the half way hut, dinner wine and pre dinner drinks. They are also supporting us again with a table at our dinner at The Dorchester where we can renew our friendships and discuss the missed putt/lucky shot over a glass of wine.
The winning pairs for MTGS were Roger Prowting & Neil Aldridge, Mike Newman & Peter Van Blommestein and Lee Cohen & Mike Bell. The unfortunate pairings of Eamon Bradley & Gerry Lynch, John Smith & Ray Fisher, and Nick Kingsbury & Craig Brown came up against tough opposition that played very well on the day. The overall result was a fair one and everyone departed in high spirits after an excellent carvery meal and plenty of banter, looking forward to next year.
