About the MTGS
The MTGS was formed as a Golfing Society on 14th Sept 1926.
In 1959 the waiting list was thought too long and two sections
were formed, the "Parents" and the "Associates" with
new members joining the Associates and when vacancies appeared
in the "Parents" members moved "UP"!
At the end 2001 the Parents had 120 members and the
Associates 86. Due to falling attendances at meetings
it was agreed to amalgamate back to one Society. Membership
is now 192. New members have to be proposed and seconded
by two members and be involved in the Motor Industry,
to play they need to have a handicap of 24 or under.
The entry fee is £70 and the annual membership fee is
£50.
There are about 15 matches/meetings per year and members
may invite guests to some of these meetings. The members
play each year for 35 trophies, some dating back to
1926. There is a annual dinner at the Savoy in London
which has an attendance of over 300 (members and guests).
John R Smith is Golf Manager. In February 2011 a brief
history of the MTGS was produced by Gerry
Lynch.
