President’s Match 2019 Report
This year's President's Match again returned to the beautiful North Cornwall coast where the plan had been to play St Enodoc on Monday 2nd September and Trevose the next day.
Sadly, in the event, the good folk at St Enodoc lost our booking so it wasn't possible to play there. Happily, Trevose was able to step up and offer us afternoon tee times for the first day's Four Ball Better Ball matches so all was not lost.
That first day the results were close ... very close in fact. So close that the day ended 2 1/2 - 2 1/2.
Which meant that the 10 singles matches played on Tuesday morning would decide the result.
Game 1 President win
Game 2 Halved
Game 3 MTGS win
Game 4 MTGS win
Game 5 Halved
So, with half the scorecards in, MTGS were 1 up at 5 1/2 - 4 1/2.
Game 6 President win
Game 7 President win
Game 8 MTGS win
Game 9 Halved
At this stage the score was President's Team 7, MTGS 7 which meant it all came down to the final match between Eamon Bradley for the President and David Manchester for MTGS.
Well done Eamon for winning that final game and ensuring that the President retained the President's Trophy!
The result could not have been closer which made for a great two days of fun, friendship, sport and wine in industrial quantities.
Many thanks, as always to Ray Fisher for organising the event once again. Not everything went entirely to plan but that in no way detracted from a great match. Even the weather was kind to us, though it would have been helpful had the wind been a few mph quieter!
Here's now looking forward to next year's President's Trophy under the auspices of President-elect Nick Haigh.
