Report of MTGS Member/Guest Day at Hankley Common 0n 27th August 2019

On a glorious sunny day (too hot for some of us!), we teed off at 8.30 with a shotgun start. Apart from the greens which had been recently worked on, the course was in great condition with the heather, in full bloom, looking beautiful: it appeared a little less lovely when one’s ball disappeared into it!

In his address at the end of a first-class meal, our President, Martin Derrick, covered the following: -

· A wonderful turn out today of 73 including 31 guests

· A warm welcome to our guests and, in particular, two members of the Midlands MTGS

· Our three member/guest days have proved very popular this year and we intend to use the same three courses (Woking, Swinley Forest & Hankley Common) next year

· Thanks to John Smith who kindly volunteered to do most of today's admin: he is currently hors de combat following a hip operation but hopes to return to playing golf in the not too distant future

· Future dates: -

o September 2nd/3rd – one space to be filled for the President’s Match at Trevose

o September 4th - a reciprocal invitation from the Midlands MTGS to join them at their event at Beau Desert (an excellent course near Cannock)

o September 12th - our final major of the year at Walton Heath. Numbers are low at present - do sign up for a great day if you possibly can

o November 21st - BEN Day at Effingham

o December 11th - Lunch at the RAC Club

· A sincere "thank you" to our sponsor, Automotive Assets, and, in particular, to David Manchester who will present the prizes

· One of our regulars, Stan Chicksand, was due to play today but he was taken into hospital on Sunday: the Society's best wishes have been sent

The prize-winners follow as do the leading scores in the player of the year (aggregate) competition with just one round (Walton Heath) to complete it.
