News and information from this event
Good Evening Gentlemen
Thank you to all those of you (and your guests) who attended our final event of the year at Walton Heath yesterday. There was an impressive turn out of 56 players and we were blessed with blue skies and 21 degrees.
We set off in 4 balls from the 1st and 15th tees and many of us soon discovered how brutal the heather is that dominates the second cut of this magnificent track. Fairways were patchy in places following the recent hot weather but this did not stop some from coming in with very respectable scores. Special note is due for John Smith for scoring 40 points due to some fine putting and Eric Wright (a prospective new member) for being the overall highest scorer with 41 points.
Social distancing and Covid-19 restrictions meant that there were no speeches or trophy presentation and a very average BBQ lunch had to replace the normally excellent Carvery. Not really the Club’s fault with staff still on furlough and Boris’s “Rule of 6” just coming into force. The catering and bar staff on duty were very attentive and did a great job of making us feel welcome. We look forward to the fine Carvery returning next year!
Results as follows:-
1st Martin Howes with 36 points
2nd Nick Haigh with 34 points
3rd Joff Suter with 34 points (countback)
1st John Smith with 40 points
2nd Roger Prowting with 33 points
3rd Steve Burge with 33 points (countback)
1st Eric Wright with 41 points
2nd Bill Neilson with 38 points
3rd Graham Prestedge with 36 points.
Let’s hope 2021 brings better fortune than 2020!
