Scots Victorious in "Auld Enemies" Clash at Wentworth

Wonderful weather again blessed the MTGS, this time for the annual match against the Scottish Motor Trades Golfing Society. The contest involved two teams of eight, playing four-ball better ball match play, with the SMTGS team defending the trophy they won at Panmuire in Scotland last year.

Day one saw the Scots, led by their president, Alex Thomson, take a three one lead on the beautiful East course, despite the MTGS being given a flying start with a 7&6 victory in match one. Afterwards, dinner was taken in the splendid Ryder Cup Room at Wentworth and a thoroughly enjoyable evening of banter was had by all. The results on day two however, suggested that those from north of the border handled the late night whisky rather better than those from the south!

Battle was rejoined on the championship standard Edinburgh course the following morning but sadly for MTGS, the Scots reigned supreme, with another decisive 3/1 victory, resulting in a match result of six to two in favour of the SMTGS, a fine defence.

So for the MTGS it is back to the practice ground in the hope that the 2003 visit to Scotland will be more successful. LGS: 17/5/02
