News and information from this event

98 intrepid golfers arrived at the Berkshire Golf on Thursday morning with two or more changes of clothes and all the wet gear they possessed – the forecast for the day was not good and the thought of playing 36 holes in the pouring rain was not nice!

As the first golfers went off the sun was shining and there was no sign of the rain – in fact there was only one heavy shower at around 4pm and a period of light rain around 5pm.

The golf courses were in the usual superb condition one expects of the Berkshire – even after the torrential rain the day before. It has been said that "the Berkshire takes no prisoners"; looking at some of the cards this is indeed possible! However as can be seen from the results below a number of players achieved very creditable scores.

Our MTGS flag was flown at half-mast all day and immediately before the prize giving a short silence was held to let the members remember Mel Dawkins who very sadly passed away earlier this year. Mel was the 1st div winner of this event last year.

Following the presentations of the prizes, kindly donated by JIGSAW Finance, the President showed his lack of skills as an auctioneer as he tried to get members to bid for a pair of tickets for Lords. He only had a couple of bids from the floor and ended up buying them himself for £50. (The cash going to BEN.) – Don't give up your other job Nick, its unlikely you will make it in auctioneering!

All agreed that the day had been a great success. (photo on the website) 09/07/04RJF
