Match v Midlands at Tadmarton
Sat 3rd to Sun 4th June 2006

News and information from this event

Tadmarten Mtgs - MTGS Midlands

We won the putter 3.5 to 2.5. Good match and Tadmarton looked after us very well. The heroes were match two where Stan Thompson and Neal Smith were two down after 9 in spite of Stan going out in 3 over 38. Neal was round in 76 and they fought hard to get a very valuable half. Stan who is a well established bandit in the MTGS was perplexed after 9 holes to be fighting against two bigger bandits!! Paul Williams and Mike Bell were the other heroes winning the vital bottom match to bring us to victory.

Match Details:
Peter Batchelor & Peter Featherstone beat Ted Summers & John Gorse
Stan Thompson & Neal Smith halved with Eric Fyfe & Mike Hearn
Langley Davies & Heath Evans beat Ian Sloss & Bob Morris
Mike Mead & John Skeldon lost to Bill Emery & Alan Moore
Alan Pulham & Conrad Gamble lost to Tony Gilroy & Tony Sweeney
Paul Williams & Mike Bell beat David Street & Steve Benton

Mike Bell did a good job as Match Manager. PB

Editors note - Please note that Mr Gorse and Mr Sweeney played for the other side, but as one lost and one won it was even!

As holders of the trophy we assembled at Woburn full of hope. Peter Featherstone our President last year had done a great job of organising the occasion including the weather. By the end of the first afternoon we trailed by 3.5 to 0.5 and realised the Scots had brought a strong team but also a determination to avenge last years defeat. We were heartened by the knowledge that last year we had won the second day by 4 matches to nil. Your President shuffled the pairings but all to no avail. We ended up on the wrong end of a 6.5 to 1.5 match defeat. Chastened but still smiling!

Woburn Golf Club and the Inn at Woburn looked after us magnificently and we know that the Scots enjoyed everything about the venue
