Report - Match v North West at Tadmarten Wed 3rd June 2009

23 members from both sides battled around a closed M40 and the corresponding congestion in the surrounding area to arrive for the match. The weather was good for golf – not too hot but nice and sunny, and the course was in super condition.

Regretfully the MTGS team was not as good as the conditions and many players struggled against some formidable opposition! James Crickmay and I were around level par after 9 holes but were 3 down! We were told that the 17 handicap man on the other team did not normally play like that!

The end result was a rather humiliating 1 ½ - 4 ½ loss with only John Smith and Tony Ash winning, and Tony's brother Butch with John Bell the only ½ .

One of the apposing team did not arrive and one of our teams played against a singleton but still lost 5/4 – I will save their blushes but they had better win if they play again this year!

A number of fines were levied at the meeting with Tony and James fined £5 for old style shirts, Paul Williams £5 for no MTGS Shirt! John Gorse and Godfrey Hall were threatened with a large fine for playing for the wrong side and winning but I was told that I could not fine the apposing team! Although John did offer to pay.

So far this year BEN is up by £25 and I will do my best to get up to at least £100.

My match score so far this year – 1 win 1 loss. I felt very sad handing over the Putter to Brian – but I told him he could only keep it for 12 months!

Mike Bell our Match Manager for this match did a first class job - Many thanks Mike.
