Match MTGS v Volvo

For a number of years this match has been played at Swinley Forest.  Howerver due the cost that Swinley now want to charge we decided to move to Maidenhead CG.  Maidenhead is over 100 years old and a super course. Lionel Squire is the Match Manager for this match and also the Captain of the Volvo team and a member at Maidenhead! This match can be a little incestuous this was the 1st time I have played for the Society! Lionel did well and only used 5 MTGS members for the Volvo team!

John Smith and I played together in the 1st match and thinking that if I lost the Society would win.  I persuaded John to help me lose. As Lionel played the 1st 9 holes in 1 over par gross this was not difficult! He played the back  9 almost as well and John and I lost 6 and 5 as you will see from the table below this was not a win for the MTGS!  However the day was much enjoyed by all and thanks go to Lionel Squire for Match Manager duties.

There is no photo – I had the camera but forgot to use it….. sorry!

Result 3/2 to Volvo who retain the Charles Singer Cup.
