Match & AGM Report
It is with some sadness that I make my last President’s Meeting report. The year has just rushed by and has been most enjoyable.
We were very lucky with the weather last Thursday at St George’s Hill, the forecast the day before was not good but on the day most players got round in the dry. The turnout was very good with almost 60 players. Considering the winter the course was in fine fettle as were some of the golfers. The top 3 players in the 1st Div all scored a very creditable 40 points with Lionel Squire coming out on top after a very close count back. The result table is shown below. Lunch was of course up to the usual standard. Following the prize giving Gerry Lynch went to the first tee and followed by a resounding cheer from the members drove in as our 2010 President. Much to his surprise the drive was long and straight down the middle of the fairway.
The 77th AGM was held after the Drive in and was attended by 17 members. John Smith reported membership stood at 179 and said that we could do with some more members. He thanked the sponsors and said that the 2010 meetings would all be only 18 holes, this was as requested by the members and to reduce cost.
The society had made a small profit of £229 and was targeting break-even in 2010.
Gerry Lynch was elected and said that it was a great honour to be elected president and that, looking back at the society records, it was clear that he was following in the footsteps of some prestigious motor industry figures. He wanted to enjoy his year of office.
James Crickmay was proposed by Gerry Lynch, seconded by Neil Smith and was unanimously elected vice president.
Gerry reported that the committee which is made up of presidents had agreed that 2 ordinary members would be invited to join the committee and asked for volunteers. John Smith asked any interested members to contact him.
The main item under Any Other Business was that Peter Featherstone had taken over as Dinner Organiser and there was discussion about how to ensure a well-supported event in 2010
