Members Meeting
Walton Heath G C 9th September 2011

Our final meeting of the season was held at Walton Heath with 42 players entered on the drawsheet including 6 new members playing for the first time.

Heavy overnight rain had softened the course ,but thankfully it remained dry during the round although there was a stiff south westerly breeze blowing. The Old Course was beautifully prepared with the heather in full bloom!!!

After bacon rolls and coffee, play began at 8am from the 1st and 15th tees in traditional 2 balls. The scoring was mixed with the heather and bunkers spoiling many cards. However, there were 2 notable gross eagles achieved by Gerry Lynch at the par 5 8th and Ian Wilson at the par 5 16th hole.

After an excellent lunch in the famous dining room overlooking the putting green, the prizes sponsored by Motorclean were handed out with Peter Featherstone winning Division 1 and Anthony Ash winning Division 2. The scratch prize was won by Neil Fox with an excellent gross score of 79 and the Presidents Putting Competion was won by Douglas Drummond.

My thanks to John Smith, our golf manager, for all his hard work over the season who ensures these meetings run smoothly and to Lionel Squire and John Etches for their assistance at this meeting. Thanks also to Ray Fisher for sorting out the aggregate winners for 2011 and of course to David Warren and John Hammond of Motorclean for their generous sponsorship.
