Match Report – MTGS -v-  President’s Team

Wentworth 15 / 16^th Aug 2012

A great couple of days were had by all at Wentworth, we had a few showers on Wednesday but Thursday was fine and warm.  The East Course was the venue for the 4 ball better ball matches which the MTGS won 4/1. Dinner that night was in the Ryder Cup Room; the setting was magnificent with lots of photos and memorabilia on the walls.  The staff at Wentworth were exceptional as was the food.  Following an evening where a considerable number of bottles were consumed a number of rather “Jaded” golfers were on the1st tee of the Edinburgh course at 10.00am Thursday morning for the Singles matches which were played in a very friendly 4 ball format. The result of the singles was 6 ½  - 3 ½ to the President.

If you are with Derek at some time, do ask him to tell you about his shot in the match. The short story is that he hit his approach to a green way of course and went 50yds into a load of trees – missing all but a large tree at the back – bounced off that tree and missing all the trees on the way back out and ended up 2” off the green, at that point John Smith, his opponent, decided that he was not going to beat Derek…….

A big vote of thanks was given to the Wentworth Members in the Presidents team, as with out them using their “Guest” passes for the rest of the players we would not have been able to afford to play the match at Wentworth.
