MTGS meeting held at Walton Heath Golf Club
Thu 13th September 2018

We had a great time at Walton Heath yesterday: the course was in splendid condition ahead of the British Masters and the weather was perfect – windless, cloudless and warm. The greens were very true and the heather was beautiful but had to be avoided at all costs. 37 people participated in the final "MTGS major" of the year. The main points covered by the President after an excellent lunch were:

* welcome to Stuart Noakes who was playing in his first event as an MTGS member
* whilst we have a policy of rotating Clubs for our member/guest days, next year we will return to Woking, Swinley Forest & Hankley Common as they were all so well received and supported this year
* an encouragement to attend the Dinner on December 6th (remember that ladies are most welcome)
* Unfortunately BVRLA pulled out of this year’s match with us and there will be no future matches with them. Midlands MTGS will be wound up next month and so there will be no more matches with them either. We are pleased to announce that a new match will be introduce next October against KIA. The Committee will be meeting soon to discuss what we should do (if anything) about replacing the second discontinued match
* a sincere thank you to our prizes sponsor – Motorclean, who unfortunately could not be represented on the day

The results of the day’s Stableford, putting competition and the aggregate competitions are attached (in two formats). I have also attached the leading scores in this year’s aggregate competition. Particular congratulations go to: -

* Stuart Billings who won the putting competition but also crucially had the best scratch score – just three over par, gross
* Joff Suter who was our player of the year (2 shot cut): his consistency since joining us last year has been remarkable. This year he played in all five majors and if his worst three scores had been taken instead of the best three then he would have been overall second on the list!
* Oliver Harris for the highest Stableford score of the day (41) and winning Division 1 (2 shot cut)
* Ray Fisher for winning Division 2 (2 shot cut)
* Terry (Beat That!) Wills (as recorded on the card!) for winning nearest the pin in Division Two with a shot that finished within two inches of the hole – despite his well known putting deficiencies, he went on to sink the putt magnificently!!
