MTGS Guest Meeting at Woking Golf Club

Friday 2nd August 2013.

This was our third and last guest day of the year so it was pleasing to see some members bringing groups of two/three guests and making up their own group.

We had a turn out of around 57 players on the day, even with the few last minute casualties, and of those 17 were guests. So a good turnout. Despite the threat of rain and the early overcast sky, we enjoyed their bacon rolls and an early morning coffee, the weather held as we teed off at 8.45 and improved as we went through the round, there were some great scores turned in despite the tricky greens, so some of you really played well.

Div 1 was won by John Skeldon with 39 points, and Div 2 was won with a countback on 40 points by David Finneburg So I am sure there will have been some movement in the placing in the aggregate competition which will finish at our last event of the year at Walton Heath on 12th September.

The course at Woking was in its usual fine condition and I think we all enjoyed the view from their rear terrace overlooking the 14th green sipping whatever drink takes your fancy after a tough round. The catering staff also looked after us well at the splendid carvery lunch, personally I always look forward to the starter at Woking which is almost a meal in itself. The day finished with the prize giving with many retiring for coffee and some more wine on the terrace to bask in the afternoon sun.
