MTGS v TRANSPORT GOLFING SOCIETY at HANKLEY COMMON
31st July 2013.
The 2 teams assembled at Hankley Common at 8 am for this traditional singles match and the pairings were drawn over bacon rolls and coffee for a 9.10 start. At 8.45 ,I received a call from West Hill Golf Club as one of our players was looking for the MTGS team. Late replacement ,Eamon had decided to tour the 3 Ws of Woking,Worplesdon and West Hill before dashing to Hankley Common for the last tee time at 9.45. So the match got underway under grey skies with a hot swirling wind .The course was in excellent condition with fast running fairways and quick greens. The President leading from the front accompanied by Lionel got the MTGS off to a flying start with convincing victories. Further wins for Mike ,Brian and Ray with a half for Gerry secured the victory. Eamon and James lost their games to arguably the TGS's strongest players so no shame in that!
Both teams enjoyed an excellent lunch after which ,TGS president,Mike Bacon congratulated the MTGS team and presented the Motor Transport Trophy to John Smith, who continues his unbeaten run of victories in 2013. My thanks to Ray Fisher and Eamon Bradley for stepping in as late replacements at the 11th hour.
John Smith beat Mike Bacon
Lionel Squire beat Bill Briggs
James Crickmay lost to Simon Kerr
Gerry Lynch halved with Gordon Watt
Mike Evans beat Peter Ray
Brian Lowe beat John Pritchard
Ray Fisher beat Alan Imm
Eamon Bradley lost to Frank Silvester
Match Score MTGS 5 1/2. TGS 2 1/2
