MTGS Guest meeting held at Walton Heath Golf Club
12th September 2014
We had a splendid time at Walton Heath today: the course was in great condition and the weather was ideal for golf despite the lack of sun. In all 37 people participated in the final "MTGS major" of the year. The main points covered by the President over an excellent lunch were: -
• Thanks to Mike Warnes's efforts, we have obtained a new MTGS flag which was unfurled for the first time today. We think that our previous one was at least 70 years old and was beginning to show signs of its age! The new one is superb.
• Looking forward to 2015, we have our usual Member days at St Georges Hill and Walton Heath and the three Member/Guest days are at Betchworth, Hindhead & West Hill - Woking being dropped under our new rotation system - we will return there in 2016
• Very soon members will be receiving their invitation to our annual dinner at the Dorchester on December 4th. Please make every effort to attend...along with a number of your guests! A prompt reply is strongly recommended for this very special occasion with its remarkably competitive ticket price
• The BEN charity day will take place on December 11th at St Georges Hill. Please support this great cause if at all possible
• Finally, a really sincere "thank you" for the continued sponsorship of our prizes by MotorClean and particularly to their MD, David Warren, who has kindly agreed to present the prizes today
• How privileged we are to belong to such a tremendous Society and to enjoy the facilities of such a fine, historic golf club
The results are detailed in the attached pdfs (Prizewinners & Leading Aggregate Scores). A couple of the highlights were: -
• A magnificent round by Steve Wright which meant that he won the Scratch Trophy despite playing off a handicap of 16 (now 14!)
• A great performance by Godfrey Hall who won Division 1 on the day and the President's Plate (which will be presented at the Dinner) for the aggregate of his best three rounds. Remarkably Godfrey played in just three of the five events and won by no less than 7 points scoring 114: his reward will be to start 2015 playing off a single figure handicap!
I look forward to catching up with many of you at the Dorchester - do not forget Thursday December 4th!!
Terry
