News and information from this event
MTGS v The Northwest MTGS at Blackwell GC
Thursday 25th September 2014
The teams arrived at the lovely Blackwell club around 12.30 with the weather dry and a little windy. The pairings were announced over bacon rolls and coffee with Nick Haigh teeing off first at 1.30 as a singles game because we and the Northwest were one man short. We had 5 other matches in the usual 4 ball better ball format under match play conditions.
As I have mentioned, we unfortunately were missing one player - Graeme Hunt - who sadly injured his back the day before: given that he was unable to play, Nick Haigh kindly offered to play a singles match.
As usual, it was a very competitive affair but played in a great atmosphere of friendship. It was a close finish coming down to the last match of Paul Healy and Langley Davies just being pipped on the 18th to get a draw.
The matches finished as follows:-
Nick Haig lost, Eamon Bradley and Derek Allen lost, Steve Dewitt and John Warren won, Pawan Kenth and Sam Burton won, John Gorse and Patrick Smiley halved, Paul Healy and Langley Davies lost.
Final score MTGS 2.5 Northwest 3.5
The trophy was presented by our President Eamon Bradley to the Northwest captain Paul after a lovely dinner and quite a lot of delicious red and white wine.
My thanks to the catering staff for their kind attention and a big thank you to the chef for a wonderful dinner and dessert, also many thanks to the green staff who had done a great job of presenting the course in such excellent condition. Blackwell is always a favourite course of the MTGS and we all look forward to returning next September to regain the trophy.
