MTGS v ROYAL LOGISTICS CORP at Worplesdon
Thursday 21st August 2014
The weather smiled upon us last Thursday and a contingent of ten MTGS golfers met up with the RLC at one of the best courses in Surrey. Although the greens were recently hollow-tined they were still quick enough to bring out a few choice words!
The first pair of Stan Chicksand and Mike Bell set off in their buggy (overdue hip replacement they said)
and finished the first half five down but got it back to a small loss after a sterling fight back. Sam Burton and John Woollatt took on RLC’s second pair and emerged victorious by 3 & 2 with Sam leading the way. Martin Derrick and Terry Wills had a close match winning 2 & 1. Your president with Rex Wilson had a scorcher eventually winning 1 up – a final green putt determined the outcome of that game and the overall match. In the last match, Jerry Horwood and John Wake lost narrowly 3 & 2 resulting in a fine win for your society by three matches to two.
We recovered the trophy after a two year absence - one loss and a draw - and it is now back in its rightful place.
The food as usual was superb and the company exceptional; thanks to all our team and particularly the late reserves.
